Welcome to the first Urban Botanics glossary entry. In this new series of posts we'll succinctly explain some key gardening jargon so you can take your urban gardening to the next level. Armed with a few key definitions you'll be confident in selecting plants and flowers that are most appropriate for your urban garden, and ready to look after them so they keep looking beautiful. Since this is our first glossary entry, we've got a double bill special; covering both annuals and perennials.

Create a mini cactus garden

Cold outside? Think of warmer climes (like deserts!) and create a mini cactus garden for your home. Very low maintenance and easy to create, a cactus garden will make a stunning coffee table centrepiece. And you can have lots of fun selecting the cacti you want to use - there is such a huge variety of them!

Apparently last Monday, 16th January, was the most depressing day of the year, commonly known as Blue Monday. How to make a Christmas mobile from natural objects

It's very nearly Christmas! And if you feel your house could do with some last minute, extra festive cheer, then I highly recommend making a Christmas mobile, using objects found in your urban garden or local park. I'm so pleased with how mine turned out and it was incredibly easy to make.
