Bring bright and bold colours to your urban garden

Published 18th May 2017 by Michelle

Summer is coming! As I write this outside the weather is glorious, and I’m itching to get out into my urban garden to have a potter. Summer plants bring the brightest and boldest flowers of the year, and in this post I focus on plants to buy and plant now to make your urban garden pop with colour this summer.

Bringing bright and clashing colours to an urban roof garden

Colour clashing

Clashing bright, electric flowers like the yellow lily and fuschia hydrangea pictured below is a great way to bring zing and flamboyance to your urban garden. Add to this by accessorising with bold, bright colours – like the acid green rug pictured above. Bringing textiles like rugs and cushions out on a nice day is a great way to make your urban garden more comfortable and more colourful – setting yourself up for a lovely day of relaxation in the sun.

More subtle, but still bold hues

If you’re after bold and bright colours that don’t scream quite as loudly, then try planting blue agapanthus and soft but deep pink Armeria. Remember that the pots you put plants in have an impact too – I love the subtle electric hue of the blue agapanthus pictured above, and it looks fantastic planted in a bright chartreuse green planter (available to buy in our online shop).

A curry plant is also great for bright colour, toned down by blueish grey leaves (which do have a curry scent!). Try also planting echinceas, which come in a restrained but vivid variety of shades including pink, purple, red, orange and yellow.
